Dschang, UDs/SIC- 08/04/15. The University of Dschang was plunged into a euphoric atmosphere on the 8th of April 2015, to mark the Rector's cup finals in the various competitive sports and cultural disciplines in the University for the year 2015, a step in the preparations for the all University games slated to hold at the University of Yaoundé 1.The arrival of the Rector, Prof Ancalet Fomethe, the representative of the Senior and Divisional officer Ze Franck Arnaud(Assistant Divisional ), Nkomo Orfeo (1st Assistance Divisional of Menoua),the representative of the Mayor, alongside key university officials sparked up the expected finals in various disciplines. The Rector's entourage witnessed the heavily contested finals in judo and individual fights in the female and male categories, with the Faculty of Sciences in the female category wining first position and the Faculty of Law and Political science taking 2nd position, while in the male category the Faculty of Letters and Social sciences claimed 1st position and the Faculty of Science 2nd position.

Demonstrations by the Paralympic athletes followed suite before the kick-off of the finals in volleyball, handball, and basketball and, finally football which was severely contested between the Faculty of Agronomy and Agricultural Science and the Faculty of Management and Economic Sciences, which ended in a 3-2 win by the Faculty of Agronomy and Agricultural Science. The Second phase of the competition that took place at the University auditorium was spiced with a colourful and explosive display of artistic skills embodied in raw and sheer talent by the students of the various faculties. The cultural finals competitions included ; choral singing, miss/mister UDs, traditional dance, ballroom dance, plastics arts, poetry, folklore, painting among others. These activities kept the audience mouth opened throughout the event as the theme of the dayPatrimonial cultural and material heritage for sustainable development was showcased in all aspect to the admiration of the ever applauding crowd. The event which ended at 10: 30 pm drowned the audience in satisfaction, as the Faculty of Letters and Social Sciences carried the day with the highest number of trophies to mark the end of the rector's cup. The stage is set for the University games 2015 come may, as coaches, athletes and competitors were advised to remain steadfast and imbibe the untested Olympic spirit of to assure that the University of Dschang continue in climbing not only the academic ladder of excellent but also that of sports dominance in the country.

The 5th Edition of the Rector's Cup its Uniqueness

In a special interview with the Rector of the University of Dschang, Prof Anaclet Fomethe during the football finals at the Catapult stadium of Campus A, highlighted the essence of the “Rector's cup”, stating that it was an opportunity to train the students of the University of Dschang in the various competitive disciplines. He added that such a competition gave room for performing sports as leisure .he applauded the competitors for instilling the atmosphere of animation in the campus during the competition and was essentials for students who were already in their second semester programme for the year. He traced the history of the cup and attributed its creation to the involvement of his collaborators who initiated the idea. With its objective centered on the University games, faculties are forged to imbibe a spirit of competition and a wide range of potential athletes are selected from the fold of students. This would in effect continue to light the flame of the University's sporting spirit. In his closing speech, the Rector made reference to the Roving Ambassador and football icon, Roger Milla who had always been present at the occasion but was unavoidably absent due to commitments. The boss eulogised the presence of the ambassador in spirit and lauded his material support during the games. He advised competitors in all the disciplines to aim high during the forthcoming games and assured them of mismanagement's support in attaining the prime objective of success. Trophies were awarded to finalist of all sporting and cultural disciplines to mark the end of the 2014/2015 sporting/cultural activities. /PN
