UDs hold SCIENTIFIC WEEK: PROMOTING PROFESSIONALISM IN THE MINING SECTOR

The Faculty of Science of the University of Dschang from the 18thto the 19th of May 2015 celebrated their scientific week at the esplanade of the Amphi 600 of Campus C through the professional Master programme of applied geology, Mines and Petroleum under the patronage of the Rector, Prof Anaclet Fomethe. The occasion which commenced at 12.30 am had in attendance key University officials, lecturers, enterprises of the mining sector, students, family members and the media among others. The official ceremony was marked by the cutting of the ribbon by the Rector/UDs. The students presented brilliant exposes on their different topics to the admiration of the Rector and guest. Some of the diverse themes centered on fields like hydrology, mining, water, bore holes, soils among others. Brochures and pictures were also available to provide ample information on the topics. Enterprises involved during the ceremony, included, Green Heart International which deals with artistic gold mining, SNH the National Hydrocarbons Corporation, SONARA, the National Refining Company, GEOFOR, GIMERC, GEOCAM, Sol Solution Afrique Centrale and many others which had hosted the engineering students during their academic internship. The activities culminated with the signing of partnership between these institutions and the University of Dschang. The Engineering students who had successfully completed their internships were proud recipients of attestations from the Rector of the University of Dschang as consultants.

The Rector on that occasion lauded with satisfaction the brilliant work carried out by the students and expressed thanks to all who participated in ensuring the success of the students. He advised the students to be ambassadors of the University and contribute in the employment sector through discipline and competence. The stands were then opened to the public and students who made their turns in great numbers to gather information to enrich their academic know how.

The Dean of the Faculty of Sciences, Prof NGAMENI, lauded the efforts of the enterprises and commended the need to sensitizing the enterprises on accompanying the students to the professional road to excellence and the creation of an industrial milieu in the enterprises. “It is the first promotion of our professional structure in engineering dealing with mines petroleum and applied geology. We have been accompanied in our efforts by some key national and international enterprises, the eloquent and enriching presentation of the students is obvious that our efforts have not been in vain. This training will be of prime importance to the youths by inculcating the spirit of professionalism as prescribed by the Head of State, and serve as a form of employment.We are happy, and encouraged.
