Within the context of Emergency Response to Refugees from Nigeria Plan Cameroon is urgently seeking to recruit experienced, enthusiastic, humanitarian-oriented and hardworking Cameroonian for six months duration to fulfill the positions below. While funding is only guaranteed for 6 months at the point of advertising, Plan is seeking longer-term funding and the operation in the Far North Regions will be operating for much longer than 6 months.

Title: (1) Child Protection in Emergency Officer

Duty station: Maroua

Main duties and responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Emergency Response Coordinator, the child protection in Emergency Officer Will among many other tasks perform the following

  • Provide expertise in the assessment
  • Conduct initial rapid assessment of current situation in collaboration with local specialists and affected population, determine priorities and immediate activities and resources
  • Review, assess and update the child protection situation in areas affected by emergency
  • Represent plan to child and other protection clusters, stakeholders and governmental and non-government agencies ( and military where present) for the proposes of the protection aspects of the assessment
  • Identify potential partnerships to implement recommendations on how to fill gaps
  • Design and develop appropriate surveillance, monitoring and evaluation systems for protection interventions
  • In coordination with education staff, support the monitoring and reporting of child protection concerns and violations of child right commitments embodied in the UNCRC, resolution 1612 and other legal instruments

Qualification and experience

  • University degree in social sciences or related field with good knowledge of protection principles and emergency response
  • Proven professional experience in education, child protection, psychosocial support, humanitarian affairs, human right, and related field
  • Minimum of one successful assignment in an emergency situation/context Have o good knowledge and understanding of DO NO HARM principles and established international child protection standards (especially UNCRC)
  • Experience with participatory approaches to education, emergency preparedness, crisis/emergency relief management, or other related area. Experience in the country of potential assignment is an asset
  • Physical environment and demands
  • Frequent travels
