POSITION: Appliance Repair Technician
CLOSING DATE: August 10, 2017
WORK HOURS: Full time, 40 hours/week
The U.S. Mission in Yaounde, Cameroon is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position Appliance Repair Technician. This position is located in Yaounde, Cameroon.
BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION
Under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, the incumbent carries out technical repairs of all electrical household appliances and office machines, including refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, gas and electric ranges, distillers, shredders, and other large appliances. He/She undertakes other duties as directed by the Facilities Manager.
Detailed Duties and Responsibilities for Appliance Repair Technician:
Under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, the incumbent carries out technical repairs of all electrical household appliances and office machines, including refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, gas and electric ranges, distillers, shredders, and other large appliances for their customers. Undertakes other duties as directed by the Facilities Manager.
50% of Time
Maintains, troubleshoots and repairs all water distillers in residences and offices. Repairs and maintains other household appliances and gadgets including but not limited to: refrigerators, freezers, washing machines, dryers, dehumidifiers, gas and electric stoves, water heaters, ceiling and desk fans, transformers, adaptors, etc. Checks for the correct function of equipment prior to delivery to residences and provides instruction/guidance to the customers on how to operate the appliances properly.
25% of Time
Assists in the delivery of distiller units in residences and offices, will maintain and make repairs, assist the customer on how to clean distiller units, will maintain a log of test results provided by the embassy health unit on maintained distillers.
25% of Time
Maintains a log of all repairs and submits weekly report of jobs undertaken, problems encountered and solutions applied to specific problems. Prepares bills, repair estimates and does inventory control. Makes requisitions for spare parts in advance by contacting supply clerks on stock levels.

EDUCATION: CAP or Ordinary level in electricity or electronics from a technical or vocational school or any accredited institution is required.
EXPERIENCE: At least two years of journeyman work experience as an electrical repairman (or relevant experience) in a large institution or international organization is required.
LANGUAGE: Level III (good working knowledge) speaking/reading/writing English and Level II (limited knowledge) speaking/reading French are required. (This will be tested.)
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: The incumbent should be able to read and understand electrical circuit diagrams and schematic drawings and to work with multi-meters independently with minimum supervision; able to use computer software applications with emphasis on WORD and EXCEL for reports and records keeping; able to cross train with other electrical/mechanical trades. He/She must possess numerical skills for inventory and accountability of appliances; good customer service skills; and driving skills (category B driver's license). (This will be tested.)
JOB KNOWLEDGE: The applicant must be knowledgeable on the following:
- All phases of appliances and office machines repair; electrical safety installation procedures.
- Capacity, made, sources of replacement parts, etc. of different appliances.
- Local electrical codes and use of standard electrical tools and equipment.
- How to connect water or gas lines and how to check for leaks once the appliances are installed.
- How to dismantle and reassemble appliances to make their diagnosis.
