Applications are invited for EPFL fellowships available for international postdoctoral fellows at the EPFL campus in Lausanne, Neuchâtel, Valais or Fribourg in Switzerland. The EPFL Fellows international postdoctoral fellowship programme annually awards 24 fellowships of a maximum duration of 24 months each year/call. Applications should be made jointly with the Fellow's mentor, a senior scientist at EPFL. EPFL Fellows conduct their own research within the framework of the proposed project. Applicants should be submitted till October 1, 2015.

Study Subject(s): EPFL fellowships may be held in any scientific discipline within the EPFL. Fellowships are available for researchers in all disciplines that are covered by the research of the EPFL host professors: Architecture, Civil Engineering, Environmental Sciences and Engineering, Computer Science, Communication Systems (unique in Switzerland), Mathematical Sciences, Physics, Chemical and biological Engineering, Micro Engineering (also at MicroCity@Neuchâtel), Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Life Sciences and Technologies; complemented by the programs of the College of Management of Technology and the College of Humanity (with the collaboration of other universities). Candidates choose freely their host laboratory and project, in order to maximize their new experience and the advancement in their scientific career.
Course Level: Fellowships are available for pursuing postdoctoral research program.

Scholarship can be taken at: The EPFL fellowships can only be carried out in Switzerland, at the EPFL campus in Lausanne, Neuchâtel, Valais or Fribourg.

Eligibility: Citizens of any nationality may apply.

  • Applicants must have a PhD degree or have at least four (4) years of full-time equivalent research experience.
  • Applicants must fulfill the transnational mobility rules: Incoming applicants must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Switzerland for more than 12 months in the three (3) years immediately prior to the deadline for the submission of proposals.Re-integration applicants must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Switzerland for more than 12 months in the three (3) years immediately prior to the deadline for the submission of proposals, and show at least two (2) years' of experience in research at the postdoctoral level in any other country, by the time they submit the application.
  • Applicants must have arranged a research plan with a host laboratory at the EPFL in advance.
    There are no restrictions concerning the age, gender or nationality of the candidates. Candidates with career breaks or variations in the chronological sequence of their career steps are welcome to apply. Exceptions to the above rules are possible for women, e.g. in case of maternity leave, as EPFL has adopted a policy of equal opportunity.

What does it cover? The EPFL Fellows fellowship consists of a monthly contribution of 2'625 Euro to the salary of the post-doc at EPFL. The remaining part of the salary is provided by the hosting Professor. It is therefore important that the research plan is developed in cooperation with the Principal Investigator at EPFL. You should contact the Human Resources of the hosting research department to inquire about the basic salary level, which includes social benefits such as AVS (pension scheme), and AC (unemployment insurance) and family allocations.

Selection Criteria: The international evaluation panel will review your application against the following criteria: (1) Excellence; (2) Impact; (3) Implementation. See the table below for more details about each criteria as well as the threshold/weight.

Notification: Final decision will be made by Research Commission in end January 2016. Candidates are informed approximately four months after the submission deadline whether they will be granted an EPFL Fellows postdoctoral fellowship.
