Department of Food Science, University of Pretoria (UP) is offering Postdoctoral fellowship in the field of Nutritional Sciences, focusing on in vitro micro-nutrient bio-availability. Fellowship is available for a postdoctoral researcher to carry out a long-term research project (24-36 months). The fellowship will include the following: All research and living costs. The successful applicant is also allowed to apply for additional funding from his/her country of origin or other sources. Applications may be sent any time before November 2014.

Eligibility:

  • Doctorate or comparable academic degree (Ph.D., C.Sc. or equivalent) in Nutrition, pharmacology or biochemistry. The PhD must have been completed after 2009. Candidates who have nearly completed their doctoral degrees are eligible to apply provided that they submit the manuscript of their dissertation or publications containing the results of their dissertation.
  • Academic publications reviewed according to international standards and printed in journals and/or by publishing houses.
  • Experience in a cell culture lab would be preferable
  • Experience in micronutrient nutrition would be preferable
  • Recommendations from your doctoral supervisor and one other academic qualified to give well-founded comments on the applicant's eligibility, preferably including reviewers not working at the applicant's own institute.
  • Language skills: Must be fluent in written and spoken English.

Scholarship Open for International Students: Scientists and scholars of all nationalities may apply for this fellowship.

Scholarship Description: The project the Post-Doctoral fellowship will form part of is the analysis of micronutrient bioavailability using chemical and cell culture assays. The fellow will also have to take responsibility for running a cell culture lab, including day to day maintenance and mentoring/supervision of Postgraduate students.

Duration of award(s): Fellowship is offered for 24 month with possible extension to 36 months
