NORDIC INSTITUTE SCANDINAVIA - BUST HND, BACHELOR'S AND MASTERS DEGREES PROGRAMMES IN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY – EET; AND RENEWABLE ENERGY TECHNOLOGY - RET.

NORDIC INSTITUTE OF SCANDINAVIA: INTERNATIONAL DEGREES OFFERED BY THE NORDIC INSTITUTE OF SCANDINAVIA (University of Oslo-Norway and Sweden) IN COLLABORATION WITH BUST.

  • Department of Renewable Energy, ARCHITECTURE, Urban Planning and Waste Recycling (B.Sc. & M.Sc.)
  • Department of Renewable Energy and Electrical Engineering (B.Sc. & M.Sc.)
  • Department of Entrepreneurship, Micro Finance & Business Management (B.Sc. & M.Sc.)
  • Department of Project Management, Urban & Regional Planning, G.R.S. and Sustainable Development (B.Sc. & M.Sc.)

INTRODUCTION
This programme which is proposed by the NORDIC INSTITUTE OF SCANDINAVIA IN COLLABORATION WITH BUST prepares students to earn a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology - EET and Renewable Energy Technology -RET.

It covers circuits, conventional and renewable electrical power, analog and digital electronics, microcomputers, control systems and instrumentation, and telecommunications and wired/wireless networking. It also includes landscaping and architecture, waste management, health and sanitation, town planning as applied to Renewable Energy systems.

It includes 12 months of practical industrial experience that may be done during academic and vacation periods.

The Electrical Engineering and Renewable Energy technologist occupies a position between the craftsman and the engineer but closer to the engineer. He/she can bridge the gap between science and practical electrical devices and systems.

The EET and RET coursework is applications-oriented and project-based. That is, hands-on experience is gained through laboratory exercises and projects that are carefully integrated into the courses.

Each course is 50% theory and 50% laboratory work and projects. In electrical engineering, emphasis is placed on theoretical work whereas in electrical engineering technology, emphasis is on practical work.

OBJECTIVE
The main objective of this course is to train and produce Operational Technicians who can handle various electrical problems, especially Renewable Energy facilities in the rural and urban communities of Cameroon and Africa. That the reason it is community development oriented.

The secondary objective is to train and produce Electrical and Renewable Engineers who can handle the complex problems of the growing rural and urban communities as far as electrical energy and all forms of renewable energy is concerned. They will be able to design, conceptualise and apply adequately according to the various complex environmental needs of the rural and urban communities, taking into cognizance the fast growing demographic explosion in the rural as well as urban communities.

Renewable Energy also instills in the students the notions and practical mastery of Sustainable Management of Energy as related to Rural and Urban Development, Landscaping and Architecture, Entrepreuneurship and Marketing.

Sustainable Energy Management is an important multidisciplinary area devoted to finding new methods of sustainable energy production and improving the efficiency of existing systems. It addresses issues such as the social and environmental aspects of energy use, as well as the economic, policy and technical aspects of conventional and sustainable energy generation and use.

The Sustainable Energy Management major will prepare students for a career in this challenging and rapidly expanding field. Graduates can be expected to use their skills in areas such as sustainable energy systems design and planning, applied landscaping and architectural and urban designs, energy policy, energy economics, energy management and efficiency, the environmental and social impact of energy systems and their use, as well as sustainable energy research.

The major consists of units in the core areas of conventional and renewable energy. Students then have the flexibility to gain more knowledge, or develop an area of specialisation, in a particular area of interest by completing a minor or double major/double degree. Some of the associated areas with promising employment prospects include science (physics or chemistry), renewable energy engineering, economics, environmental science, policy analysis (sustainable development), computer science, information technology, landscaping and architectural designs in applied renewable energy, and commerce (management and marketing).

OUTCOME
The Technicians and Engineers will be equipped to become consultants, entrepreneurs and self employed in this fast growing energy market, bearing in mind the liberalization of energy market supply in Cameroon

The recent rapid expansion in the renewable energy and energy efficiency industries has led to a global shortage of trained staff, and employment opportunities in this area are expected to continue to grow rapidly. Graduates can expect to gain employment in power generation, renewable energy manufacturing and installation companies, international aid organisations, Government departments, energy efficiency and environmental consultancies, university and private industry research organisations.

Main areas of research consist of: Renewable energy, remote area power supply systems, components and monitoring, energy management, properties and applications of thin film solar cells, landscaping, architectural and urban designs and applied renewable energy, energy policy and energy economics.

Admission Requirement: GCE A'level with at least 2 subjects in the sciences and technical subjects including mathematics; BAC General or BAC Technique.

Equipment Requirement: Laptop (notebook) with internet access and toolkit.

Special Note For Francophones And Lusophones with BAC or SELETIVIDAD: There will be intensive English proficiency training from August to September for BSc. and Masters candidates.
