Main objective and tasks

Main purpose of the position:

  • S/he is responsible for the collection of protection data and for Protection assessments in the assigned areas of responsibility. Contribute to the design of methodology and analysis and liaise directly with affected communities.
  • S/he identifies individuals at risk through household level assessments or individual interviews and provides them with orientation on available services or refers those with specific protection concerns as required.

Mains Tasks:

  • Conduct protection assessment activities at household and community level using various quantitative and qualitative methods and tools
  • Liaise and create relationships between INTERSOS, IDPs and host community representatives, local leaders and local organizations in the assigned area and provide them with overall orientation on the project
  • Based on the internal vulnerability criteria, collect information on at-risk populations
  • Identify key informants within the community to involve in regular protection monitoring activities through individual interviews
  • Facilitate Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) amongst community members on protection to better understand the protection issues affecting the communities
  • Assist the IDPs community in obtaining information, knowledge and access to available relevant services the protection Desks through outreach activities
  • In coordination with the Protection Assessment Team Leader, liaise with Focal points within the community to collect information on population movements and protection incidents within the harder to reach areas of intervention.
  • Keep track of and report protection incidents, trends, population movements and produce Maps on the zones of displacement and intervention within their field locations.
  • Identify individual cases with protection concerns during protection assessments and outreach activities and liaise with the case worker to develop appropriate intervention.
  • Map out service providers within the localities assessed, highlighting the gaps to support advocacy through the protection cluster.
  • Carry out all tasks respecting key protection principles including but not limited to: - do no harm, non-discrimination, confidentiality, accountability and need-to-know principles
  • Actively participate in community awareness activities when necessary
  • Establish and maintain a good relationship respecting and guided by humanitarian principles with local, administrative, customary and community leaders in his/her area
  • Participate actively in the weekly meetings

Educational and professional experience required

  • University Degree in Social Sciences or relevant field
  • One year of relevant working experience in the protection sector
  • Previous working experience with IDPs, refugees and returnees
  • Strong knowledge of international protection in the humanitarian context
  • Strong knowledge in other protection areas (i.e. case management, psychosocial support activities etc.)

Technical and behavioral competencies required

  • Computer literacy (Word, Excel, outlook)
  • Adaptability and readiness to carry out numerous field trips
  • Analytical and reporting skills
  • Respect and adherence to protection principles
  • Capacity to work under pressure, flexibility
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Desirable competencies and qualifications

Languages

English and Pidgin

Knowledge of French (written and spoken) is an asset
