Main objective and tasks

Main purpose of the position:

S/he is responsible for ensuring the overall implementation of activities to assess and where possible respond to the protection/human rights situation of people affected in the area of concern, while meeting quality standards. S/he supervise Field Assessment Workers' day to day work, providing support in conducting field visits to hard-to-reach villages, camps and other urban settlements, assessing the security situation and facilitating access whenever needed.

Mains Tasks:

  • In collaboration with the Field Assessment Workers' support the development of the protection assessment methodology and analysis.
  • Coordinates with the Protection Officer to lead all day-to-day protection assessment activities.
  • Facilitate access to affected communities and establish nurturing relationships with key stakeholders, including religious and tribal leaders.
  • Conduct regular field participatory protection assessments, using an age, gender and diversity approach, in order to fully understand protection concerns and priorities.
  • Enhance and facilitate discussion on main human rights violations, protection concerns, response capacity (actor mapping) and gaps within the displaced and the host communities.
  • Arranges proper archiving of all the collected information as well as that of Protection Assessment activities related documents, either in softcopy or hardcopy, to facilitate the access for the line manager and external stakeholders.
  • Ensures with support of Information Management Team and line manager the proper collection, processing, handling, and analysis of all data related to outreach activities.
  • Ensures a proper and timely internal and external reporting on activities and targets by using established tools and templates of INTERSOS and donors.
  • Responsible for conducting needs assessments in collaboration with the Field Assessment Workers ensuring that the assessments are non-biased, neutral and inclusive of all actors and diverse groups present.
  • Supervise and support Field Assessment Workers' in the implementation of agreed protection activities through provision of day-to-day support and operational guidance.
  • Organize and guide the team in conducting Focus Group Discussion, risk mapping and community sessions on relevant protection topics.
  • Supervise and ensure that the proper tracking of and report protection incidents, trends, population movements and produce Maps on the zones of displacement and intervention within their field locations.
  • Ensure and support the effective identification and referral of vulnerable individuals for case management support and/or additional relevant services available.
  • Prepare and submit weekly and monthly activity plans, reports and analysis.
  • Represent the organization at general coordination working groups and clusters with donors, humanitarian actors and local authorities, when requested.

Educational and professional experience required

  • University Degree in Social Sciences or relevant field
  • Minimum 2 years relevant working experience in protection sector (of which at least 1 year in a supervisory role.

Technical and behavioral competencies required

  • Analytical and reporting skills.
  • Familiar with the concept of Protection Monitoring.
  • Strong knowledge in other protection areas (i.e., case management, psychosocial support activities etc.)
  • Respect and adherence to protection principles
  • Capacity to work under pressure, flexibility.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Desirable competencies and qualifications

  • Computer literacy (Word, Excel, outlook)
  • Adaptability and readiness to carry out numerous field trips

Languages

English and Pidgin

Knowledge of French (written and spoken) is an asset
