Emmanuel College Research Fellowships are offered by its Governing Body for any graduate of a university within or outside the United Kingdom. Three stipendiary Research Fellowships are offered in any subject and one Alan Wilson Research Fellowship in biological and medical sciences. Eligibility is restricted to those for whom the Research Fellowship would be their first substantial paid academic or research appointment (other than as a doctoral student). Candidates holding a fellowship or other post-doctoral stipend at the University of Cambridge awarded by a Research Council or other similar body may apply. These fellowships are for a three-year fixed term and will commence on October 1, 2014.

- These Fellowships are intended for outstanding researchers early in their careers: successful candidates are likely to be in the latter stages of their research leading to a PhD degree, or post-doctoral researchers who have been awarded their PhD degree after 1 October 2012. Candidates should note that these Fellowships are extremely competitive.

Research Fellows will be given the option to live in College (although no married accommodation can be provided), and are entitled to lunch and dinner in Hall free of charge.Research Fellows are normally required to reside in Cambridge during Full Term. However, subject always to the permission of the Governing Body, Research Fellows may work away from Cambridge for up to three Terms during the last two years of their Fellowship, either by retaining their Fellowship on full stipend, or by intermitting their Fellowship without stipend and thereby postponing its finishing date. p>

What does it cover? The stipend for Research Fellows is related to the national academic scale. The current stipends for pre-doctoral (resp. post-doctoral) Research Fellows is £21,087 (resp. £22,458), if the Fellow is resident in College, and £23,208 (resp. £24,579), if the Fellow is not resident in College. Pre-doctoral Research Fellows will be responsible for any University fee they incur up to the level of a UK post-graduate student; the College will contribute the difference if a higher fee is applicable. Fellows are permitted to receive additional remuneration for up to six hours College or University teaching a week. Additional benefits for Research Fellows will include grants for research expenses and academic travel, a book allowance, and assistance with computing facilities.
