Erasmus Mundus is funding joint Doctorate Fellowship in Engineering and Entrepreneurship Development (SEED) for European and non European students. Up to 9 fellowships are awarded for the full PhD period. The PhD candidates will spend 3 or 4 years in two different institutions located in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain or United Kingdom. The first and third years will be spent in a Primary Institution (PI), while the second year will be spent in a Secondary Institution (SI). In 4 years programmes, candidates will spend their last year in the PI.

Study Subject (s): The SEED program focuses on the study and development of up-to-date techniques for the numerical analysis of engineering and science problems. The programme also includes modules on entrepreneurship training and firsthand experience on spin-offs.
Course Level: Fellowships are available for pursuing PhD program at two different institutions located in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain or United Kingdom.

Eligibility:

  • Candidates must have completed by September 2014 a Master degree in Physics, Mathematics Engineering or Applied Sciences, or a similar degree equivalent to at least 300 ECTS (5 years university studies).
  • Non-native English speakers require a minimum level equivalent to an IELTS score equal to 7.0 (in both the written and oral).
  • European and non-European candidates are welcome to apply.

Scholarship Open for Students of Following Countries: European and Non EU applicants are eligible for this PhD fellowship.

Scholarship Description: The Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate in Engineering and Entrepreneurship Development (SEED) is an initiative of 8 well recognized academic partners specialized in simulation techniques for solids and fluids. The SEED program focuses on the study and development of up-to-date techniques for the numerical analysis of engineering and science problems. The programme also includes modules on entrepreneurship training and firsthand experience on spin-offs. Research topics will involve modeling of fluids, solids, electromagnetic or coupled problems, with applications in a wide range of engineering branches: civil, aeronautical, biomedical, mechanical, etc.

Number of award(s): The consortium offers 9 fellowships for the full PhD period.

Duration of award(s): The PhD candidates will spend 3 or 4 years in two different institutions located in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain or United Kingdom. What does it cover? Monthly allowances in the form of employment contracts will be provided to all successful EMJD-SEED candidates during 3-4 years depending on each individual doctoral plan. This applies to both category A and B students. The basis of these contracts is that all students selected for the EMJD-SEED programme should thus be able to participate full-time, independently of the personal financial situation. The financial conditions are:

  • Fixed contribution to the travel, installation and any other types of cost: 7500 € for category A students.
  • A monthly gross salary of 2800 € (before deduction of any taxes or contributions) that corresponds to a net salary of around 1400-1500 € (to be fixed in the doctoral candidate agreement depending on national legislation).
  • Participation costs (tuition fees, supervision fees) and insurance are included in the fellowship. In addition, contribution to e.g. travel to the yearly workshop is provided for up to a certain limit.
