The Ministry of Education has recently launched a prestigious Singapore-MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) Alliance (SMA3) Graduate Fellowship. These 4-year SMA3 Graduate Fellowships are available for highly talented doctoral graduate education and research for students from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and National University of Singapore (NUS) who wish to conduct their research at Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART) Centre. Duration of fellowship is of four years which covers monthly stipend, cover all tuition fees at NTU and other compulsory fees, travel grant. International students are eligible for this graduate fellowship. No bond is required for this fellowship. Application deadline is 16 December 2013.

Eligibility:
The Fellowships are open to students of all nationalities who gain admission to any PhD programme at the University where research interest fits within one or more of projects currently being carried out in the following SMART Interdisciplinary Research Groups (IRGs):

  • BioSystems and Micromechanics (BioSyM)
  • Centre for Environmental Sensing and Modeling (CENSAM)
  • Future Urban Mobility (FM)
  • Infectious Diseases (ID)
  • Low Energy Electronic Systems (LEES) The student must have graduates with an undergraduate degree at the level of a first class or second uppers (equivalent).

Scholarship Open for Students of Following Countries: International students are eligible for this doctoral fellowship.

Terms and Conditions: Successful candidates will be required to observe the terms and conditions for the award of the Fellowship. A copy of the current terms and conditions will be sent to the applicant together with the offer letter.

Duration of award(s): The award is tenable for 1 year in the first instance; but subject to the Fellow’s satisfactory progress, it may be renewed annually. The maximum period of award is four years.

What does it cover? Award Amount

  • A monthly stipend of S$3,200
  • Cover all tuition fees at NTU and other compulsory fees
  • A travel grant of S$12,000 to help cover the expenses associated with a six-month research residency at MIT (travel grant covers airfare; MIT housing; MIT visiting student fee and health insurance).

Selection Criteria: Successful candidates will be required to observe the terms and conditions for the award of the Fellowship. A copy of the current terms and conditions will be sent to the applicant together with the offer letter.

Notification: Successful candidates will be informed of the outcome of their applications from 1 June 2014 onwards. Short-listed candidates may be invited to a face-to-face interview either in Singapore or their home country, or may go through a phone interview.
